Watch Your Step This Fall Season

By Lependorf & Silverstein on October 18, 2015

Slip And FallWinter is almost upon us. But, for the next few weeks we’ll be graced with the fantastic colors of fall. Every year, the northern United States watch the summer leaves transition from green to a wild swath of red, orange and yellow. Unfortunately, it only takes one heavy snow or freezing rain storm to send these gorgeous shades falling to the ground. Of course, this is where we get the term “fall.” This is also the time of year many people find themselves sitting in the emergency room after taking a fall of their own.

Unlike hazards like ice, snow, and sleet, fall leaves are generally found only in one area – where trees can be found. While they’re a spectacular sight on a tree, once they hit the ground they’re a pile of slippery danger.

Of course, one or two leaves aren’t problem, but in a large enough pile, leaves can be a serious hazard to drivers, bikers, and pedestrians. The glossy texture of leaves, combined with wet conditions, can easily lead to an accident. Be sure to remove those leaf piles from the front of your house, and keep an eye on the road when traveling through areas with lots of trees.
