Motorcyclist Killed in Eastampton Car Accident

By Lependorf & Silverstein on January 22, 2013

A recent collision between a motorcycle and an SUV resulted in Burlington County’s first traffic fatality of 2013. According to The Burlington County Times, the fatal motorcycle accident occurred on Route 38 near Briggs Road in Mount Laurel. Officials have not determined how the collision occurred, but both vehicles were heading west at the time. The 24-year-old Eastampton man succumbed to his injuries in a Camden hospital the following morning. The 31-year-old driver of the SUV and her seven-year-old passenger were not injured. The investigation into the cause of this crash is ongoing.

This fatal collision marks the first traffic fatality for Burlington County in 2013 and the second fatal crash on Route 38 in the past year. Throughout Burlington County, 53 people were killed in 47 fatal traffic accidents in the year 2012. When compared to other counties in New Jersey, Burlington ranked third in 2012, behind Ocean County, with 54 traffic accident fatalities, and Middlesex County, where 66 fatalities occurred.

It is important to remember that no one needs to be arrested, charged, or even cited for an injured victim or his or her family to pursue financial compensation through a personal injury or wrongful death claim. In order to receive compensation following a fatal crash, the victim’s family or the plaintiffs will have to prove that the driver’s negligence was a contributing factor in the accident. Was the driver speeding? Was he or she distracted, drunk, or acting recklessly at the time of the collision? Were there witnesses to the crash or nearby surveillance cameras that can provide information about the circumstances of the accident?
