Motorcycle Best Buys (as Chosen by Popular Mechanics)

By Lependorf & Silverstein on July 21, 2017

motorcycle-bike-1836962_1920Despite the known risks that come with riding a motorcycle, there are also a number of benefits that continue to make it a popular mode of transportation. Not only do motorcycles provide a sense of freedom and excitement, but they also make commuting easier, have less of an impact on the environment than cars, are cheaper to own, and make parking a breeze. These days, it’s becoming increasingly common to hear the recognizable roar of motorcycles traveling along streets and highways all over the country.

Whether you’re in the market for your first bike or looking to upgrade the one you have, choosing a make and model can be quite a challenge. This year, in particular, there are several new options that are both high-performing and good-looking. Here are a few of the motorcycles that top the list for best overall value (according to Popular Mechanics):

BMW G310R: Showcasing a price tag that hovers around $5,000, the BMW G310R is one of the most affordable bikes available. It’s a great choice for beginners, as it comes with a variety of amenities and high-rated performance even with the “smaller investment.”

Harley-Davidson Road Glide: The Harley-Davidson Road Glide is a powerful bike that is built with the brand’s colossal 1753cc Milwaukee-Eight V-Twin engine. In addition, riders will notice reduced vibration, increased torque, better fuel efficiency, and a redesigned suspension system. This warrants the higher price, which sits in the $19,000-$21,500 range for the base model.

Ducati SuperSport: Ducati’s Italian designs and engineering continue to impress with the SuperSport. It has everything a rider could want in ergonomics, speed, toughness, handling, power, and comfort for around $13,000. Although it’s technically a sportbike, the upright riding position makes it ideal for everyday riding as well.

Triumph Street Cup: Seasoned and novice riders will be enthused about all the Triumph Street Cup has to offer in function and appeal. For approximately $10,500, buyers will get a bike that provides great handling, a capable suspension system, low handlebars for better riding posture, and an abundance of exciting technologies.

Yamaha SCR 950: Retailing for just under $9,000, the Yamaha SCR 950 is beautifully styled, displaying a few different vintage features reminiscent of the ‘60s and ‘70s; though this doesn’t take away from its comfortable ride and modern technologies. It has excellent off-roading capabilities, yet can be used for everyday riding.
