Resources
Located in the borough of Somerset County, Somerville became a town in 1863. The area was named and settled by the English during colonial times and remained a small farming community until the 1850's which brought the railroad and new industry, including brick making. The town is home to a significant collection of Victorian era homes, businesses, churches, cemeteries as well as the Wallace House which served as a headquarters for General Washington during the Middlebrook encampment of 1778 and 1779. Over the years, many factories were replaced with modern office building and today, Somerville contains boutique shops and restaurants that bring people from miles around.
