Monroe Township Personal Injury Lawyers
Resources
The Lenni Lenape Native Americans hunted and fished in the area that was to become Monroe for nearly two thousand years naming the area "Squankum" meaning "place of evil ghosts" - a reference to the abundance of mosquitoes in the area. The area was settled by European in 1737 for the purpose of logging and hunting. The area was renamed "Monroe" in honor of President James Monroe. The township of Monroe was first formed in 1859. Industries in the township quickly changed from logging to glass-making to canning and finally iron production. Ever since the New Jersey Turnpike opened up exit 8A, the township has seen a surge in residential development with nearly 30,000 residents and the trend has yet to show any signs of slowing.
