Manalapan is located in Western Monmouth County, NJ. The name Manalapan, translates from the Lenape Native Americans for "drinking" and "bread", an indication that the land was deemed good to settle upon. The area was originally a farming community that produced grain and vegetables. In 1778 Manalapan was the site of the Battle of Monmouth, which involved over 30,000 British and Continental troops. The township was established in 1848 after being split from Freehold Township. The Township is a suburban area which is close to both New York City and the Jersey Shore. In 2003, Money magazine rated Manalapan as the second "hottest town" on the East Coast.
