Resources
Located in Mercer County, Hopewell Township was originally purchased by William Trent in 1714. The area was incorporated in 1755 by Royal Charter. Hopewell stands as the actual site where General Washington landed his troops after crossing the Delaware River on Christmas night in 1776, and then launched a surprise attack on Trenton. Today the Township moves towards the future with a growing suburban population while maintaining several open spaces preserves and historical landmarks. Hopewell is home to the experimental renewable energy project called The Hopewell Project, which uses solar energy to generate hydrogen that in turn is converted into electricity, providing 100% of a home's heating, cooling and electrical needs. The Hopewell Solar-Hydrogen Residence was built and dedicated in October of 2006.
