Franklin Township Personal Injury Attorneys
Resources
The area that was to become Franklin County was first inhabited by the Raritan Native Americans until 1650 when Dutch settlers traded for the land. During the American Revolutionary War, several raiding parties took place on what was the King's Highway, later to become Route 27. Several farms in Middlebush were destroyed by British soldiers during their retreat and General George Washington delivered his farewell address to the army at Little Rock Hill in 1783. In 1834 the Delaware-Raritan Canal was finished, where horse-drawn barges hauled freight from New York to Philadelphia. Use of the canals was discontinued with the building or railways and today the canals serve as recreational areas as part of the Delaware and Raritan State Park.
