History of the township goes back as far as the mid 1600's when the state was divided into North Jersey and South Jersey. The township was part of Windsor which was first established by order of King George in 1750. The area was ultimately split into East Windsor and West Windsor over a disagreement by residents over public roads and maintenance. In 1819 the United States established the first post office in East Windsor, naming Daniel Mount as postmaster. East Windsor Township is part of Mercer County, which has recently been ranked 21st on the list for businesses to locate by Forbes Magazine.
